Tea Leaf Reading

What is the art of reading tea leaves….and how does it work?
Tea leaf reading is the act of reading someone’s fortune through herbal plant substances,
typically loose tea leaves.  Previously the practice was done with wax or molten metals but after the tea trade boomed tea leaves replaced those substances. Basically, un-strained tea is poured into a mug and is drunk by the person seeking answers.  Most of the tea is consumed, leaving only 5% liquid in the cup.  What remains are leaves stuck to the sides and bottom of the cup, which is then interpreted by the divination reader.
But what does the reader interpret?

Well, divination is a unique skill, there are many variables needed to open the proper gateway to the realms of psychic reality. Not everyone can do it and those that do need to have the proper mindset. When seeking a reading you’ll need an experienced individual, someone with the proper tools and grounded energy. The ambiance and atmosphere… and everything that surrounds both the client and the reader will greatly effect the subconscious mind of all parties involved. The person being read for and their state of receptivity is also key- they need an open heart. If you choose to do a reading on yourself or learn the art tea leaf reading…the exact same rules apply.

Personally,  I find the use of herbs (and tea) for divination very logical. It makes sense to me because it’s a way to connect to mother earth through fragments of plant matter that are already used to heal. It’s basically plant medicine used for it’s spiritual properties instead of physical properties.

But why am I posting about it?  Well, I want to give a rundown of how to do a DIY tea leaf reading and I also want to write about my first self directed tea leaf reading…

How to:
*Buy a tea leaf manual like the one I have pictured above so you can decipher the symbols you see in the leaves. You can also search the symbolism online HERE if you prefer.
1) Prepare a pot of your most favorite loose leaf tea, one that makes you feel calm, one that tastes good, one that gives you good memories.
2) Find a safe place, one quiet and noise free
3) place feet firmly on the ground
4) Pray to whatever god/higher power feels right to you….ask it for protection and guidance.
5) Pour tea into a wide (short) mug and allow all the loose herbs to float in your tea freely. This is important because they create the components to the symbols.
6) Now make sure you drink 90% of the tea you pour in the cup (this is key)  you only want about a teaspoon of liquid left in the teacup so it aids the herbs in moving and sliding within the cup. Another reason to drink most of the water is that you want to become one with the energy you’re consuming and the spiritual information you’re expelling. This tea and it’s properties will become an extension of you, an extension of your subconscious intent.
7) Take the cup in the hand of whatever one is the least dominant and turn it 3x in an anti-clockwise direction as you ask your question to the leaves.  Make sure this is a question you’ve thought about. Make sure it’s something the leaves can answer.
8) turn the mug upside-down on a saucer for about 20–30 seconds
9) when you’re clear that the tea had drained and you feel it’s reached the answer you wanted….turn the cup facing you, set it down and read the shapes you’ve been given by your guides.
Your tea should look something like this….

From there you want to find shapes or patterns, but they will not always be literal or straight forward in the kinds of shapes that are easy to see. So this makes studying the symbolism important, make sure you have a general understanding on the abstract nature of this form of divination. This is not like going to a psychic where you get clear messages just handed to you…you have to do the footwork yourself and have a basic understanding of the symbolism.

Without sharing my question…..
Here is what I got for my reading, what do you think? There’s a symbol that stood out  pretty obviously to me but I’m wondering if anyone else can see it? Comment if you see something in my teacup or have done your own readings or if you have any questions about my reading  🙂
