Washington is currently having a heat wave this summer and I just sat through a 94 degree day last week without AC , I’m literally melting! In an attempt to stay cool I’ve been brewing up some herbal drinks and figured I’d post a couple of the recipes. I made this one on 4th of July….
Hibiscus- Rose – Fruit Fizz
I love combining floral notes, fruit and herbals into one concoction. This recipe is great for getting some extra Vit. C in your system, it’s also good for mood & stress regulation. All of these ingredients are organic and can be sourced at your local farmers market, herb shop or grocer.
Ingredient List-
Hibiscus Flowers (dried)
Pineapple
Carbonated water or Pellegrino
Tulsi Rose Tea (Allegro brand)
Honey (or Xylitol)
Lemon
Water

Steep dried hibiscus flowers in 2.5 cups of hot water for 30 mins, allow the water to fully absorb all the nutrients and flavor of the flowers. Discard flowers and put Tulsi-Rose tea bags in the hibiscus water (you’re making tea). Add sweetener of your choice, the amount of your choosing. I use honey or Xylitol , Xylitol does not spike your insulin so it’s a healthy option for those watching their sugar intake or who prefer sugar substitutes. When you’re done steeping the tea portion of this drink, remove tea bags and put in the fridge for an hour to cool the hibiscus-tulsi-rose brew. When ready, juice half of pineapple, add strained pineapple juice (around 1/2 cup) to the tea. This should sweeten the drink so take that into consideration when adding a sweetener. Now add sparkling water and lemon for added tartness & fizz!

Hibiscus – helps with water retention, is high in vitamin C, reduces inflammation, has bioflavonoids that help with depression, aids is help with staph infections, helps to prevent kidney stones due to it’s diuretic properties
Tulsi – also known as Holy Basil , is considered the queen of herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. This adaptogenic herb is one of my favorited as it heals and nourishes the body in so many ways. It’s very good at reducing stress and lowering cortisol in the body. It’s also used for congestion, coughs, and other respiratory ailments. It alkalizes, helps the heart and skin, it strengthens oral health…and also helps stabilize your mood.
